Victor was born out of found objects and a desire to bring inanimate objects to life. All of his parts were obtained from junkyards, thrift stores, and forgotten places. His skin was sewn clumsily out of second hand leather, but his body and members were carefully shaped to accommodate the found parts. Ergo his name; from Shelley’s Frankenstein.
Even though the idea was to create a character from forgotten objects, the overall design and scale of Victor was ultimately dictated by the parts that were available.
This hanging kinetic sculpture was made out of steel found objects welded interlocked with ten bronze casted individuals holding the whole piece together. The individuals represent the human kind, the ‘found objects’ represent the greatest discoveries / inventions of humanity (controlled fire, the wheel, the printed press, antibiotics, the printed press, the internet, and whatever it is to come).
We are giants standing in - or hanging from - the shoulders of giants.
